ZELTSMAN MARIMBA FESTIVAL
D.C. percussion, Zeltsman Marimba Festival (USA)
“At ZMF, I attended a series of masterclasses taught by world class marimbists. These classes were varied, and some focused on specific topics (such as Bach on Marimba, transcriptions, or even one specific standard work), while others focused on repertoire that participants were learning. I personally had the chance to play in a masterclass for Fumito Nunoya, a Japanese marimbist, a piece called Sirocco, by Michael Burritt, which is characterized by a flourish of swirling notes that represent desert winds. I learned an incredible amount simply by watching great artists perform. I also felt very grateful to be exposed to so much interesting repertoire that I had never heard before and can add to my library of music. I played in the final participant concert, and was glad to have the opportunity to perform a Canadian work in another country in front of students and professionals from all over the world…” |
