NATIONAL REPERTORY ORCHESTRA
M.R. violin, Spoleto and National Repertory Orchestra (USA)
“[At] the Spoleto Festival, I performed in the orchestra pit of the American premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s opera «Émilie». …Being a part of this production was the most professional experience I’ve had as a violinist. The quality of playing was always incredibly high, the rehearsals were efficient, and the conductor treated us as educated, intelligent, artistic musicians. …Overall I can say that the Spoleto Festival was the best Festival I have ever attended. The level of playing was extra- ordinary, I got to experience all kinds of art, enjoyed the town of Charleston, the beach, and I got paid! I would highly recommend the festival to anyone. …I found the heavy schedule [at the National Repertory Orchestra] and work load to be some of the best orchestral training I’ve ever received. I was forced to learn how to quickly learn repertoire, how to react quickly to what the conductor does and to retain information without a lot of rehearsal. These are the skills that the musicians in professional orchestra must have because they also perform new concerts every week. If I were to win a job in an orchestra, I would feel confident going into the first rehearsal because of my experience at the NRO.” J.S. bassoon, National Repertory Orchestra (USA) “The NRO was by far the best summer music festival I have attended and I learned so much more about my musicianship than I thought I would during my 8 weeks there. I would definitely recommend this festival to anyone interested in summer orchestral studies…” |
